enroute to portland

Over Thanksgiving break I went on a road trip with 2 of my good friends and our moms. We went from East San Francisco Bay to Portland, Seattle, Vancouver, Vancouver Island, to Whistler, and back. This is the first part of our trip!

I left early from work Thursday and planned on driving up to a campground just short of the CA boarder to stay the night. I had stayed at this campground before on my Lost Coast road trip so it worked out perfectly for my first night. Klamath’s Camper Corral is a cute campground right off the 101. Since I drive a Subaru I can put the seats down and camp out in the car. It was raining when I arrived so I was glad for my cozy dry car!

I had booked the campground in advance as I would be coming in late and paid over the phone. I paid $30 for a tent site and mainly picked this campground for our Lost Coast road trip because they had showers- clean and perfect for camping. This section of my trip was about 6 & 1/2 hours driving time.

The next morning I woke up and checked out – picking up some free flowers on my way out.

From Klamath I continued up the 101 to Portland. (10 hours driving time)

At Mile 200.8 I stopped at the Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area in Gardiner, OR.

I ate lunch in Yachats at the Green Salmon Coffee House. I had their Breakfast Burrito with Yukon and sweet potatoes and their own homemade ketchup with a Sea-Side Salty Mocha.

I drove up to Seaside and walked on the boardwalk until it was time to drive to Portland and pick up my mom from the airport. We stayed the night in Portland at the Traveler’s House-one of my favorite places on our trip. The Traveler’s House is an independent Hostel off of Alberta St. It is a house converted into a Hostel and has a homey feel. Our first night my mom and I stayed in their Private Queen Room.  It is within walking distance to all the great shops and restaurants on Alberta. Great location, hospitality, and a memorable stay.
